Cate Monaco is a Philadelphia singer-songwriter and performer with a songwriting style distinguished by the influence of her classical vocal background, and other traditional performance experience, which she blends with contemporary feeling. Pairing this with her self-taught piano approach results in a sound that is uniquely her own. Her music is melodically driven, which allows her expressive and intricate vocals to lilt through her purposeful piano arrangements.

Lyrically, Cate discovers themes from personal introspection, existential wondering, and interpersonal observation. Her songs convey meaningful truths— sometimes presented as moving, impactful ballads— and other times packaged in satirical whimsy.

Her voice was her first instrument and once discovered, she never stopped using it. From early childhood, Cate pursued vocal growth, delving into choral and choir singing, barbershop harmony, theater, and classical vocal training through her teen years. She learned to play piano by ear with the help of her older brother as they abandoned traditional lessons for piano-rendered versions of alternative punk rock ballads.

At age eighteen, Cate came to the Philly area and began honing her songcraft and lyricism. During this time she also pursued vocal session work, gave voice lessons, and joined some collaborations with other local artists. Now showcasing her own original work, Cate is currently performing, and planning her debut album.

Cate’s shifting musical interests and varied performance history have heavily shaped her original work and today she draws inspiration from influences such as Regina Spektor, Aimee Mann, Markéta Irglová, and Adrianne Lenker.

By fusing unfiltered musical styles with broad genre interests, Cate leans into an authentic creative process, and carves out a sound that feels deeply personal and unmistakably her own. Whether soft or storming, every note she delivers carries intention as she invites listeners to walk through her stories.

“…A self-taught pianist, Cate writes about lived experiences ranging from childhood memories to the small moments that make up everyday life. What struck me most was the honesty of her performance. Listening to her felt less like attending a concert and more like sitting with a friend who had decided to share a collection of stories through song. There’s an unapologetically quirky charm to her writing and stage presence that feels completely genuine.
If Rory Gilmore had traded journalism for a piano, you might have a rough idea of Cate’s vibe, but you’re better off hearing it for yourself.”

“Cate Monaco is an amazing singer. I have worked with her for over five years, mostly as a harmony singer. She has an uncanny ability to perfectly match a lead singer with precision timing and intonation. She captures the mood of the song. She even duplicates the singer’s accent and idiosyncrasies. Her original songs are compelling. Her songwriting is sensitive and emotional, and her performance draws a listener in to hear the story she is telling.”
